TSURUMAKI Ikuko

Ikuko Tsurumaki (born 1972, Tokyo) is a photographer. After spending a year in the United Kingdom in 1997 to study English, she returned to Japan and—encouraged by those around her—began studying photography. Alongside writing and teaching, she founded Jam Photo Gallery, where she curates exhibitions of leading photographers and supports emerging practitioners. She presents street photography projects made in Japan and abroad, and also explores the theme of “seeing” through interviews and fieldwork with blind and low-vision communities. Finalist for the 31st Tadahiko Hayashi Award (2023) and the 44th Domon Ken Award (2025); recipient of the 33rd Tadahiko Hayashi Award (2025).
