AZUMA Takeshi
A sound engineer and the director of Yamashokuon. From studio recording and live sound reinforcement to field recording underwater or deep within caves, he pursues the skills that make it possible to encounter sound in its most honest, unforced state—regardless of place or subject. Grounded in field recording, he approaches a site—the field itself—from multiple angles, investigating what it holds and putting those insights to work in practice. His work extends well beyond field recording alone: from soundscapes that connect an entire site, to technical direction for installations in museums and other venues; from sound effects for moving images, to catering, even to working as a hiking guide. Yet one question runs through it all: the distance between people and their environments (their site), and the flows that circulate between them.
