Filmmaker/artist Sora Neo and documentary photographer Laura Liverani together made this movie during their stay in Nibutani, Biratori in Saru-gun, Hokkaido. In this life-sized documentary, the artists try to capture the general picture of Ainu today, through delicate images that convey how cultural conservation, tradition and discovery are still very much alive among individual citizens and communities with Ainu roots. The result is an intimate movie that was at once made with the ideas of a portrait and an archive film in mind, and that appeals to the viewer and inspires us to look across the boundaries between identities and attributes.
