This documentary follows Hatano Hideto, the driving force behind the film Living on the River Agano (Aga ni ikiru) and secretary-general of the Niigata Minamata Disease Patients’ Association in Yasuda. Since his twenties, Hatano has been involved in supporting patients, searching for forms of care that might allow them to say, “Even after developing Minamata disease, I am glad to be alive.” He has continued to organize the memorial gathering “On the Shores of Aga” for people who have faced discrimination or died without ever being officially recognized. Komori Haruka began attending this gathering in 2013 and began filming Hatano there. After relocating to Niigata in 2022, she has continued to document the community, finding in the bustle of those who gather around “Aga” a quiet hope that memory will be handed down.
