Widely used for home movie use from the 1950s to the 1970s, 8mm film has been undergoing a reevaluation in recent years, despite the fact that digitalization has made its survival difficult. While greater importance is being attached to the preservation of valuable films both as private records of precious family moments and as cultural archives, artists are focusing on 8mm film as a form of expression and experience. In this program, four filmmakers and directors spanning different generations and careers will undertake new works on the theme of “color” using 8mm film. This will be a valuable opportunity to examine the possibilities of 8mm film in the contemporary age.
