After serving on the editorial board of <i>Cahiers du cinéma Japon</i>, Higuchi founded the label boid in 1998, producing and releasing videos, books, and CDs. Beginning in 2004 at Kichijoji Baus Theater, he launched the “Bakuon Jouei (Roaring Screenings)” series—film programs screened using a concert-grade live PA system, pushing sound to the foreground and testing what cinema can reveal at full volume. Started in 2008, the Bakuon Film Festival has since expanded to venues across Japan. His books include <i>Eiga wa bakuon de sasayaku</i> (lit. “Films Whisper at Deafening Volume”; boid) and <i>Soko kara saki wa betsu sekai: Mosou eiga nikki 2021–2023</i> (lit. “Beyond That Point Lies Another World: A Delusional Film Diary, 2021–2023”; boid), among others. He also produced Hokimoto Sora’s film <i>BAUS: The Ship’s Voyage Continues</i>.
