Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1946. He graduated from the Department of Photography in 1969 and from the Art Institute in 1971, both at the College of Art, Nihon University. Since the 1970s, he has continued to exhibit works from the series Legacy of Time Passed, which traces the shifting relationship between European cities and nature. He has also pursued the photographic series Mirage, made with an 8×10-inch camera and taking Kujukuri Beach as its point of departure—a significant body of work within his practice. In the more recent series Asia, his gaze extends beyond the relationship between city and nature to encompass everyday life and the transformations of the urban environment.
