Ben RIVERS and Anocha SUWICHAKORNPONG, Krabi, 2562

UK director Ben Rivers has released numerous experimental works, while director Anocha Suwichakornpong of Thailand has pursued realism in the film drama format. These two filmmakers, with their diverse backgrounds, have collaborated to produce this work that is set in the town of Krabi in the south of Thailand, a site popular since the 1980s as a resort destination. Combining documentary with fiction to evoke different moments spanning the ages, from present day to prehistoric times and the early modern era, the film reveals a landscape linked with mythology particular to the locale. Included are the legendary Phra Nang Cave, a natural cavern on the verge of disappearance, and groups of animal sculptures. In the Buddhist calendar, used in Thailand, the year 2562 corresponds to the year 2019 A.D.
