TOYOSHIMA Yasuko

In a completely darkened room, a lighting system is set up in which red light
and green light alternates in one-second intervals. TOYOSHIMA arranges
color cards that she has brought into the space in order of hue/tone and places
them on the wall. Color Compensation-1 (2005) attempts to construct a color
system based on the premise that it will not work outside the area of the space
set up by the artist. The artist’s question – how accurately can color tones be
reproduced within a limited environment? – ties in to the tireless exploration
of human perception.
