SEKIGAWA Kohei, A Summer Long, 2023, Toyota Municipal Museum of Art
Photo: Mayu Nakamura

With an interest in examining our perceptions of everyday events through physical and verbal actions and installations, Sekigawa Kohei here presents his new work, The Touch of Your Lips (2024), in which the artist and visitors will unexpectedly encounter one another inside the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. During the festival, images on small stickers placed throughout the museum at irregular times each day will be provided with small episodes through Sekigawa’s multifaceted viewpoints, while his performance (action) at the end of the exhibition will bring them together like a constellation to reveal a certain way of perceiving the world. Using “the position of the stars in a lunar eclipse” as metaphor, Sekigawa will attempt to demonstrate how knowledge, experience, consciousness, and sensations intersect, and how this world is formed and perceived.
