Ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a snake consuming its own tail, signifying an endless cycle of death and regeneration. In this experimental film, which begins in Gaza, the recurring pain of separation that the protagonist experiences in different places—Los Angeles, the Mojave Desert, Matera, Martina Franca, and Brittany—serves to highlight the pain etched in the landscape and the cycle of destruction, oblivion, and regeneration in history. Likening the end to a beginning, it explores the subject of the eternal return and how we move forward when all is lost. This is a special re-screening of Basma Alsharif’s first feature film, which premiered in Asia at the 11th Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions. At an extremely difficult time in Palestine and Israel, we would like to take this opportunity once again to explore the origins of the situation in the face of the devastating violence we are currently witnessing in Gaza.
