In Interview with a Cat (1970), Broodthaers attempts a dialogue with a cat by asking it questions, only to receive a series of “miaows” in response. Rather than perceiving the difficulties and contradictions involved in communication with others who have different sensibilities in a negative way, he finds various possibilities by proceeding with a sense of humor. Filled with the characteristic wit of Broodthaers, who was also a poet, the work shows the artist unbound by the words and actions before him, looking for the spaces in between.
