At the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, spherical “Kumi Ichimatsu” (checkered) patterns were displayed for 60 seconds as pixel images in the sky using drones. For this project, the artists translated the patterned spheres from that drone animation into sculptures, which they reconfigured into a new installation piece involving projected lights and shadows. This work was produced as part of the “Art Incubation Program,” an artist fellowship program of the Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT).
