This screening program looks back on the achievements of IIMURA Takahiko, a pioneering experimental filmmaker who has been dedicating his work to imaging technologies across the fields of film, video and performance, and who passed away on July 31, 2022. In the 1960s, Iimura privately produced 8mm and 16mm avant-garde films with cooperation from such avant-garde artists as ONO Yoko, AKASEGAWA Genpei, KOSUGI Takehisa and HIJIKATA Tatsumi, and in addition, crossed the boundaries of film to venture out into the fields of video art and performance. Shown here are a total of eleven titles, including recent additions to the collection of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, as well as works digitized at the VIDEOART CENTER Tokyo (VCT).
