“I won’t be able to produce good movies, and write good lines, if I don’t shower myself with movies every day.” These were individual filmmaker Sasaki Yusuke’s thoughts when he found employment at a university and moved to Tottori in 2016 – a place with only three movie theaters across the entire prefecture. In his search for screens on what seemed like barren land in terms of movies, Sasaki went on to encounter a number of individuals who love to watch and show them, and also those who make them. Disconnected from the movie industry of big cities like Tokyo, and unrelated to regional cultural promotion in name only, he continued his pursuit of a real and actual film culture that is rooted in the local people’s true love of cinema. All parts of his Trilogy are shown in Tokyo for the first time.
