Films create a context by connecting fragments, even if each is a deception. Actors elaborate these deceptions. Directors are manipulated by the script, which is no more than a sheaf of papers covered in ink indicating expression. Only by abandoning decoration can we restore the documentary aspect to film and bring realism back to drama. These are the concepts driving Arima Hisashi’s new film, shown at this event.
