Born 1963. Started taking photographs in a self-taught manner after moving to the US in 1986. Relocated to New York in 1993, where he began to stage live slide shows in which he operates analog slide projectors, showing “visual diaries” at public spaces including parking lots along Broadway, parks in Chinatown, churches and theaters. Since 2000, his works have also been shown at museums, galleries and other art spaces across Japan, and at such places as a closed-down elementary school in a remote mountain area, the archaeological Sannai-Maruyama site, film and art festivals at cities across the US, and at the Yokohama Triennale 2014. Toyoda has been based in Japan since 2012.
