Choreographer and dancer. Studied butoh
with KASAI Akira and ballet with INOUE
Hirofumi. Since 2002, he has been based in
New York, where he leads the Kota Yamazaki/
Fluid hug-hug dance company. He is a guest
lecturer at Bennington College. In 2007, he
received a New York Dance and Performance
Award (Bessie Award). In 2013, he received
the Foundation for Contemporary Arts
Award. In 2016, he was awarded an NYFA
Fellowship. In the 2017/18 season, he plans to
perform Darkness Odyssey 2: I or Hallucination
at the Baryshnikov Arts Center, followed by
Darkness Odyssey 3: Dark Horse Puneuma Opera
at NYLA in the 2018/19 season. He also
enthusiastically engages in projects in other
genres and joint productions with artists from
other cultures.
