SUWA Nobuhiro

Suwa Nobuhiro is a filmmaker, who began his career by taking part in independent filmmaking as a student at Tokyo Zokei University. After graduation, he directed documentary programs for television, before presenting his first feature film 2/Duo in 1997, the winner of the NETPAC and FIF Awards at the international film festivals in Rotterdam and Vancouver. M/OTHER, his second feature, won the FIPRESCI Award in Cannes. Among his major works are H/Story, Paris, je t’aime (omnibus), Un Couple parfait (Special Jury Prize, Locarno International Film Festival), and Yuki & Nina. With his chief professional base in France, Suwa is known for his unique method that shuns pre-established screenplay. 2018 saw the release of his latest film, Le Lion est mort ce soir starring Jean-Pierre Léaud. He also teaches filmmaking to elementary and middle high school students at the workshop “Children Meet Cinema.”
