ICHIHARA Etsuko

Born in Aichi, Japan in 1988, Ichihara Etsuko is a media artist and fantasy inventor. Her powerful work interprets Japanese culture, customs, and beliefs from a unique point of view and presents new, technology-based approaches. She has received extensive media attention and is a recipient of the Excellence Award at the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival and Honorary Mention (Interactive Art+) in the Entertainment Division of PRIX Ars Electronica 2018. Recent exhibitions include “Digital Shamanism: Japanese Funeral and Festivity” (NTT InterCommunication Center, Tokyo, 2016–2017), the Ars Electronica Festival, and the Japan Media Arts Festival. Ichihara is a graduate of the Department of Theoretical Configurations at Waseda University’s School of Culture, Media and Society.
