Martine SYMS

Born in 1988, lives and works in Los Angeles. Syms uses video and performance to examine representations of blackness and its relationship to American situation comedy, black vernacular, feminist movements and radical traditions. Syms ’ recent exhibitions include “Projects 106” (MoMA, N.Y., 2017) and “Fact and Trouble ” (ICA, London, 2016). She has lectured at Yale University and The California Institute of the Arts, among other venues. She currently runs Dominica Publishing, an imprint dedicated to exploring blackness in visual culture.
