Commission Project: Possibilities in Commissioned Work and Imagery

2/17/2023 18:00-20:30 (TBC)

Tokyo Photographic Art Museum 1F Hall

Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions 2023 will launch the “Commission Project,” for which Japan-based artists are selected to create and present commissioned video works as products of the new festival. Utilizing the international network that the festival has built up to now, in the long term, these will also be presented at other cultural facilities and institutions in and outside Japan, as part of a newly established scheme to support the creative endeavors of artists. Invited to this symposium were members of the jury for this project, to discuss the potentials of contemporary imagery, and re-examine the history and possible future directions of film and photography in the Asian realm, from the viewpoint of Western-centered modern history.
