Emmet GOWIN

Born 1941 in the USA. Studied under Harry Callahan, who was teaching at the New Bauhaus among others, and received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He began taking aerial photographs after the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980. His photographs of the earth taken from above scrupulously depict the design of its surface, while at once capturing the earth as a whole, and also containing suggestions regarding environmental destruction.
